Culinary students at McEvoy present a grand feast: Fantastico Dinner: Students in the McEvoy Campus Culinary Arts program recently hosted a dinner for the Cortland and Madison Boards of Education. Members were greeted by the culinary students of Chef Lori Rossi’s class with strawberry lemonade, spinach-artichoke crostini, and crispy panko-parmesan tortellini. A classic variety of Italian music played in the background while members were served a salad of fresh mozzarella, arugula and cherry tomato. The molto bene main course featured chicken saltimbocca, roasted garlic mashed potatoes and “Action Stations” where the culinary students showed off their saute skills with pasta, vegetables, shrimp and a variety of homemade sauces. Connect:NY, is WCNY’s statewide TV news and public affairs series, which continues to convene conversations that matter to all citizens of New York State.  Erin McCormack, Executive Producer of WCNY, took the time to walk students through all phases of the production. She discussed the nuances associated with producing a news show of this magnitude. DMD’s focus is promoting career exploration for students and making employers aware of available qualified candidates. McEvoy Auto Students Refurbish Zoo Train: All aboard for community servic e: Auto collision students at our McEvoy Campus played a key role last year in refurbishing a kiddie train for the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park that was finally revealed in mid-September. Students in Dale Gendron’s class took a rusty, dented industrial train that was purchased by the zoo online and worked on it for months so the zoo could use it as a new attraction. Toby Rice, the zoo’s marketing and special events coordinator, said the zoo pursued the project because patrons fondly remembered a train ride from decades past and thought it might be nice to bring it back.   Students sanded cars, filled in scratches, and primed, painted and clear-coated the panels. Called Seven Valleys New Tech Academy, this cutting edge high school at 240 Watson St. in Cortland celebrated its GRAND OPENING and ribbon cutting this morning (9/12) with more than 60 guests that included local and state lawmakers, local school superintendents and administrators, guidance counselors, students, teachers, OCM BOCES trainers, local business leaders, parents and more. LPN Graduates Inspire Each Other:         In the course of nine years, while her husband suffered from brain cancer, Marilyn Valkema found invaluable comfort from the nurses who stood by her side.      One nurse gra sped her hands and prayed fervently with her in the intensive care unit of a Toronto hospital, where Valkema’s husband, Andrew, had his first craniotomy. Another poured love on the entire family, not just Andrew, when he needed frequent care in his home. Lieutenant Governor Visits BOCES Summer School: SPECIAL GUEST:   New York State Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul visited Cortland Junior Senior High School this week to check out a free summer food program available to millions of children across the country. OCM BOCES is hosting a regional summer school at the Cortland site, where dozens of students can take advantage of the program for breakfast, lunch and snacks. The program, called the Summer Food Service Program, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
